Social Media effect on teenager
Access to social media is growing at a rapid rate around the world. According to the Pew Research Center, nearly 90% of youth aged 18 to 29 use one or more of the social media applications. That’s because social media is a constantly evolving domain, new apps like TikTok, Spotify, and Instagram come every day. Surely, it is a source of technology and news updates. Yet, it also gives an exhibition of improper content to children.
You have also noticed that social media has changed the living perspective, mainly the purpose of life. Today we see most of us living for Instagram-worthy moments. Everyone around us has cameras with them, ready to capture. Nowadays, others’ lives are of greater concern than ours.
“Everyone is comparing lives on social media and wants the perfect body, perfect image, perfect outfit, perfect life – we’re striving for this perfection, and it’s so unhealthy because there’s no such thing as perfection”, Emily Atack
When we see people posting flawless photos, showing off their skills or just having their life together. We surely feel envious for not having all those moments in our life. Mostly, young adults aged 15-26 are more vulnerable to this. They assume that other people lead perfect lives while they are suffering from career or life difficulties which make them discontent from life. But the reality goes the other way, those who publish fairytale pictures also have suffered from liver problems, but they don’t share this publicly. Because, let’s face it, who wants to see sad faces or who wants the world to know their unfinished lives or their misfortunes. Or, if they do share, we take no time to judge or comment on something bad.
After all, it is a natural phenomenon to be influenced by others. However, it is not adequate to compare others’ lives to ours because everyone’s life is different and unique in a certain way. We just need to find what life has for us.
There are a few ways that can help us grow and work on self-esteem. The first thing to do is to remind yourself that you are doing just fine and you will get what you have worked for, but at the right time.
-
Use comparison as inspiration:
Sometimes, it’s okay to compare oneself to others, it creates healthy competition and encourages us to work hard. But getting frustrated and anxious about life isn’t fair. Try to learn from each other’s successes and work hard to achieve them. If they succeed, you can too.
Be grateful for what you have and how far you have come. Show some gratitude and be humble with your achievements.
-
Spend time with positive people:
Surround yourself with your loved ones, family, friends or partner. Those people who never make you feel down and always remind you that you are important. Be grateful for having all those relations in your life.
Trust your abilities and capability. If anything about yourself bothers you try to work on it, improve it. Try something new, grow your experiences, and share them with others.
Above all, limit your screen time and do something productive or you like doing.
To end with a good reminder, always remember that real life is perfectly imperfect, and how happily you live yours is the achievement. Don’t let social media mess up your life, just live the way you want. So thats how Social Media effect on teenager.
