A lie is a statement that is believed to be false. We live in a society full of lies, so we take the outcome of lying with a grain of salt. There’s no doubt about it that lying can be dangerous. Even the smallest white lies can cause money, break trust, impact relationships or it can so worse than that. A lie should only be spoken when you get into a real, big trouble and when you know that without lying you would be harmed. The bitter truth is that we all lie, but sometimes it’s with the intention of sparing the feelings of others or preventing others from experiencing psychological and physical harm. Before uttering a lie, one should think critically about when lying might be the right thing to do.
Basics of lying:
Telling a lie sometimes is not a bad thing. Lying is divided into two parts; one is ‘good intension lies’ and the other is ‘bad intension lies’, and everyone has a choice whether to say the truth or to hide it. It is okay in some situations not to tell the truth. Everyone must know that under which circumstances the truth should or should not be told and have good and genuine reasons for making that decision. If the situation shows that telling the truth can cause a huge problem then we should try to avoid the truth.
Hiding your feeling is sometimes okay:
Hiding your feeling is also a medium of hiding the truth. Sometimes you just can not tell someone how you are feeling, not because you do not trust them, also not because you think that they will judge you, but because you can never really find the right words to make them understand how and what you feel and that makes you frustrated. Every individual have their own way of thinking, and so they take things in different ways and that is why it is so hard. ‘Sometimes it is appropriate to not tell a truth’, I completely believe this statement. Every so often everyone got stuck in a situation where to save their selves; psychologically and physically becomes much more necessary than to confess the truth. Here is the example that in what situation we should go for a lie.
EXAMPLES ARE AS UNDER:
• To save someone from being harmed: Let’s consider that your father is an angry and irate person, and he asked you that; ‘At what time did your brother come back home last night, did he study at night?’. Knowing the truth that your brother was not home last night, and he was partying with his friend the whole night in the club, you didn’t say it. Instead, you said to him that he was at home at 10 pm last night, and studied till 1:00 am. In that situation if you’ve told him the truth he would probably have beaten and scold him and surely put the ban on his outgoings and extra activities so, to save your brother you said a lie. And later after that, you’ve made your brother understand and warned not to do that again. In this way, you’ve saved your brother as well as made him understand that what he did was wrong and not to ever repeat that.
• For your family’s sake: Undoubtedly lying is a slippery slope. But sometimes, altruistic lies maybe the generous and most reasonable course of action. To aid the statement, here is another example. A woman’s husband was a drug addict and a high stake gambler. He lost all his money and property in gambling. On the other hand, the woman earns $500 per month by her local job. The husband empty-handedly came to her wife for some money. She very well knew that if she gave him the money he would definitely spend them all in drugs and gambling. Alongside, she thought about how the whole month will pass if she’ll give her all the money. Thinking wisely from all directions she replied to him is negative. She said that she had lent all the money to her friend as she needed them urgently. She lied so that she could fulfill the basic household requirements. This situation proved that a lie can somehow and sometimes results in good and reasonable.
• To save someone from grief and pain: Uttering a lie can take someone into a deep depression. If you ask an old man that his son has died in n accident, it will take him in grief, pain, and depression.
CONCLUSION:
Concluding and winding up all the words; one should lie only on those situations which results in saving someone’s life or by which someone is getting the benefit. One must lie for a good purpose only. And the one should not make habit of hiding the truth or telling a lie.
