Choosing a tree stand can be just as important as trying to grab a dog bag from a large cash register hall. There are so many different options and prices, all with excellent descriptions. How do you make decisions and do you know what you want?
Forget the box for a while and think about other important factors. What type and size of trees would you like to hunt in this area? Is there a honeysuckle structure when there are no suitable tree stands? And how old and how tall are the people who will be using the stand? What’s the weather like? Now that you’ve covered these important points, it’s time to buy some other features like: Platform size and base type.
Describe
Last year I spent a hot day in a portable tray or hanging locked on a tree that wasn’t tall enough to feel safe on a windy day. The area is ideal, next to a stream that crosses litter and construction areas. But the trees are still a mixture of white fir, maple and pests. And no one is thick enough for a hanging scaffold, climbing frame or ladder. Given the height of the young cones, a stand would be an ideal solution. They are specifically designed for areas with little or no growth and are often quite comfortable.
Other considerations
Remember, deer do not see color. This means that they can see the differences in the light and dark stages. Nothing crosses the forest but the bark of the silver maple against the dark brown base. It may be crazy, but color should be considered when buying.
While most of us feel, “the higher the height, the better,” this is not always the case. In fact, you can remove the shotguns by climbing higher since you are above the existing cap. When examining, pay attention to the places on the tree where you need to place the tricycle and measure the height.
If you want to hunt in an area where the trees have a large area, it is difficult to hang a portable base. In fact, some trees stannds in my area are so large that the garbage cans will not avoid them. If so in your area, a ladder may be the way to go.
On the flip side, monkey bars are great ambush tools for hunters, but they are not the best choice for trees with smooth bark like alder and maple. Oak trees with a nice bite are best eaten with a climber.
Age and size of hunter
For most young people or beginners, walking on a wooden platform for the first time can be a little intimidating. I found inexperienced hunters feeling safer on a ladder with a backrest close to the seat. When the railing shows the platform below, it gives the fighter real security. It’s not like a big two-man hut to introduce a new hunter to make up for hunting.
What about heavy talk? Most logs weigh between 250 and 300 pounds. Remember that a fighter can wear heavy clothing and a backpack full of accessories. Do not cross boundaries. If you need a wooden base for a heavier fighter, consider getting a 1.5 or 2 limb ladder. The weight limit for this type of rack is usually up to 500 pounds.
And what about the base weight? Do not ruin your hunting season by damaging your back by setting up a tripod. If the installation guide recommends two or four for a ladder or pedestal, don’t be a hero. Follow the instructions to set the default setting.
Platform size:
I have a particular opinion here. About 90% of the time, I like to buy the most available platform. Most of the hunting I do is done with bow tools, and I have plenty of space to rotate, draw and take photos without feeling like I’m coming out of the pits.
It didn’t fit thanks to the huge platform I was carrying. But the small portable base slipped in its place as it should be. So a small terrace can be the best choice for a small shelter.
Standard type
Buy a tripod, laptop, ladder or playground? First, think about when you will be looking at the audience. Again, this is a personal choice, but I don’t like using the jungle gym as a morning spot. It’s dark and I don’t see if the deer move. And try to avoid what I do as much as possible. When the area I have to hunt is in the morning, I slip into another type of settlement as discreetly as possible.
If you live in the north, where hunting seasons are often below freezing, I don’t use my climber. I looked to places where it was so cold that it was difficult for me to go under a tree with a playground. Logs can also slide through ice. But still my reliable top climbing platform is my favorite hunting tool. Using a play area facilitates adaptation to new food sources and cycling habits.
If you prefer space on a ladder or pedestal, indulge the urge to raise the pedestal immediately. These mounts are nice, but more difficult to move. It’s a terrible feeling to climb or climb a two-person ladder and find that tree stand is a better place in the same area. Hunt in the jungle room for a day or two before choosing your final location.
And especially …
Since it looks cheap, don’t buy a used tire! You have no idea how old the standard is and how it was used. Also, never use stands that are not certified by the Stand Producers Association (TMA). Stands that have passed the rigorous tests are labelled “TMA Certified”.
After all, never leave the ground unless you are tied to a tree and are wearing full harnesses. When using a portable strap, I use a safety belt that goes all the way down the barrel and instantly attaches to my harness. With the climbing frame, I make clothes from top to bottom in the treetops during the ascent and descent.
