A teenager is a person between the age of 13 to 19 years old. It is a lot related to adolescence. WHO considers between the ages of 10 and 21 to be an adolescent, and most neurologists consider the brain development till the early 20s.
It is a transitional stage of physical and mental development of everyone’s life that occurs during the period from puberty to adulthood.
This entire time seems to be changing a lot of things in one’s life. They have to cope with the hormonal changes, school and parental pressure along with societal pressure, and so on.
Before teenage years they have lived an untroubled life, just focused on school homework, gaming and were totally dependent on parent’s decision.
But when the life takes this turn like a smooth car where you experience life differently then every single part have to change its motion and acceleration, in the same way, every aspect of life changes when you enter this part of your life, from your physical features to your behavior habits everything experience a change here.
Early Changes
It includes sleep patterns, eating habits, declined interest in normal and healthy activities, and preferred isolation. Increased demands to perform, competing with friends that leads to unwanted stress. Overstress can lead to persistent depression because this is the high time of their mental development and this all stress and depression may cause’s permanent damage to mental health.
STRESS is one of the most commonly seen in them. They react over every single thing happening in their life and sometimes they overreact, this is because their brain takes them to think over the different levels and they can’t decide how to react and ultimately their frontal lobe began to react over every single mishap.
BULLYING is the reason that makes their self-esteem low, many of them make their move towards self-destruction, and this causes a negative impact on others too.
SENSE OF IDENTITY Egocentrism is the ability to differentiate between our self and others, teenager feels a self-conscious desire to feel important in their peer groups and enjoy social acceptance.
RELATIONSHIPS effect in many ways in their life. In general relationship with their parents, they expect their parents to understand them and don’t be judgmental on their life decision. If parents fail to be supporting at this stage then the child won’t be comfortable enough to share everything with them.
This is the high time they encountered many temporary people in their lives whom they call “ love”, who can leave long term impact on them. Usually in this age relationships won’t last long and end miserably.
CYBER ADDICTION is the fastest-growing problem amongst other common teenage problems.
PHYSICAL CHANGES may also make many of them uncomfortable because they are not ready to accept puberty changes. Everyone has different sorts of changes which may lead to disturbance.
WHAT TEENAGERS NEED
They usually expect support from their parents and their love. They don’t want parents to be monitoring them like in childhood 24/7 but they need mental support and their parent’s attention and acceptance.
RESPECT is the most effective way to understand one’s feelings or thoughts. As they are facing a new sense of identity so they want to be respected.
Many develop positive self-esteem from respectful behavior from their family or particularly parents. Making respect a mutual point will help in developing a stronger bond between parents and the child.
STRONG COMMUNICATION is the key to make any relationship strong and peaceful. You should always create a better environment for your little one so that it will be easy for them to trust you and feel free to talk to you.
Talk on every good and bad aspect of life so they can freely trust you, this will surely solve their 60% problems.
TRUST is another way to treat depressed ones. If they make any bad decision then always support them to correct it, this will boost their self-confidence and help them to make another decision much better than the previous one.
Always give some freehand so that they can make their own decision and if they make any trouble encourage them to solve it by themselves, this will help them to learn how to handle practical life.
RESPECTING THEIR CHOICES towards every matter. Let them study what they want to study, let them be themselves. Explain to them every aspect and then let them make their decision.
Always explain them to choose careers over temporary people because people can wait but time wouldn’t, if someone gives you negative vibes then you should stay away from them.
Ironically this is the high time of mental illness so help them as much as you can and make this world a better place for them by your positive support.
