Why is Gen Z So in Love With Temu?

Gen Zers are cash strapped. Most of the jobs that they find, after a long and arduous search, don’t pay a lot. It’s definitely not unheard of for Gen Zers to have two or three jobs just to survive. That second or third job may well be in the gig economy as well. So, Gen Zers are looking for real bargains when they shop. That’s part of the reason why they’re so in love with thrifting, and it’s also why they love online shopping apps like Temu!

Gen Z Craves Affordability and Bargains

And shopping apps like Temu offer them the best of both worlds. Omnisend, an Ecommerce marketing company, surveyed 1,000 US citizens and discovered something amazing. About 73% of Gen Zers have shopped on Chinese online marketplaces–Temu is one of them, but the others are Shein, Tik Tok Shop, and AliExpress.

Gen Z Wants the Ultimate Experience

Gen Z wants to experience the shopping–they crave that even more than the products that they buy. And that’s why they go for apps that offer the ultimate gaming experience–Temu offers that experience perfectly. Gen Zers want to have fun when they go shopping. Indeed, gone are the days when people dressed in their ‘Sunday best outfits’ when going to the local department store.

Young people want to feel as though they are going on a treasure hunt when they shop, and Temu offers that experience. Incidentally, so do thrift stores.

Temu Products Offer Personality

Young people want to make a real statement when they go shopping, especially when they wear clothes. That’s been true for any generation, but it’s especially true for Gen Z. Today’s youth are being pummeled by the double whammies of crushing student debt and lower-paying jobs. They crave power and stability in a world where they increasingly have neither.

Shopping on sites like Temu, where items are much lower-priced to begin with, gives them that perceived power and stability. And so they stay on these sites and shop for much longer.

Temu Sells What Gen Z Wants

Every generation has different needs, wants, and interests as it collectively passes through at least five of life’s major milestones. Gen Z is no different. The issue is that many stores may not sell what youngsters want when they need it. Online stores do, and that’s why Gen Zers flock to them. Temu makes the process fun and exciting by selling ‘hip versions’ of items that Gen Z loves or needs. Then, it sells them at very practical prices that the young cohort just can’t resist.

Temu Has Mastered the Art of Social Media Marketing

Gen Z practically lives off of digital devices. So, it makes sense that they would be most receptive to online advertising, particularly those done on social media platforms. Temu got the message early on. That’s why it advertises heavily on platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube, and Snapchat. It understands that Gen Z takes official and popular endorsement as the official seal of approval that a product is worth buying.

That’s why it has roped in popular social influencers to promote its many products and brands. The online retail giant also relies heavily on paid Meta ads when doing Facebook advertising.

Gen Z is No Longer Content With Walmart

Walmart was a newcomer that gave traditional ‘bricks and mortar’ companies a real run for their money in the late 1990s. It was successful because it offered a wider selection of brands than physical companies could at much lower prices. The retail giant also leveraged E-commerce, something that traditional companies were still learning.

Now, Walmart may be competing with Temu because the latter offers Gen Zers real value while making shopping fun and affordable.
