Everyone wants to look good. However, smart people realize you don’t need to spend a fortune doing so. That’s why they’re not into fast fashion. Maybe that’s why most smart people end up being very wealthy. Clothes may be a basic human need. However, you don’t need to wear expensive designer clothes to cover up. It’s time to explore why smart people stay rich by making wise choices when doing wardrobe shopping.

Smart People Are Practical

A lot of what you pay for when you plunk down $2,500 plus on a designer and brand new Coach handbag covers the advertising and rent that Coach has to spend on marketing its brands and keeping high-end stores stocked with items. True, Coach handbags do last longer because they’re made from better quality material. They’re also manufactured using better techniques.

However, it doesn’t cost $1,000 or even $500 to source the raw materials that go into a Coach handbag. Additionally, no handbag manufacturer is going to charge an $800 an hour salary.

Smart people realize that. Smart people also don’t care about impressing people. They follow the same logic that the Ancient Romans did. “It should be built to last and it should be useful. If it looks nice as well, that’s a secondary concern.” So, intelligent people aren’t going to by a Donna Karan outfit or a Dooney and Bourke handbag. The exception may be to splurge for a very special occasion.

Of course, that doesn’t mean that smart people want to look and smell like homeless people. People with higher IQs are also fashion-conscious and they care about their looks as well. It’s just that they’re not keen to plunk down tens of thousands of dollars on items when equally good brands are available for a fraction of the price.

Perhaps that’s why they tend to buy lesser-known brands that are of the same quality as Calvin Klein and Guess and last just as long. Lesser-known brands may last just as long as high-end items, but they tend to cost a fraction of the price.

Smart people also think that ‘fast fashion’ is nonsense. It doesn’t make any sense for them to buy a $20 outfit simply because it’s trendy and less expensive if they will only get one wear out of it.

The intelligent also look for great deals on bridge brands. These consist of reasonably priced lines that high-end designers market. Indeed, smart people only buy items that they can get the best deal in terms of utility, fashion, look, and price.

Smart People Ditch the High-End Shops

You probably won’t see too many Harvard graduates at the mall. The reason is that malls are glitzy and glamorous. They are also fairly popular with the young crowd. However, all of that glitter comes at a price. Malls spend a fortune on leases and looking nice. All of that drives up the cost of leasing space for retailers.

Retailers are forced to jack up the prices of the brands that people buy to cover the costs. Smart people realize that. That’s why they’re keener to shop at the department and even thrift stores. Sure, these stores don’t have a fancy interior or exterior. However, they can pass that savings on in the form of lower prices for their customers.

It’s not exactly any secret that more people prefer to shop at Walmart and even Ross for clothing than at the mall or Dillard’s. The reason is that they can get great bargains at the former two stores than at the latter two.

Contrary to popular belief, you can find great deals at the thrift store if you are a savvy shopper. Most smart people also know how to be wise and smart when shopping.

Conclusion

Investment wisdom may not be the only reason why the super smart also tend to be the super wealthy. They also have great pearls of wisdom and beliefs when it comes to wearing and shopping for fashionable items. Instead of being fashion slaves and clothes horses, they are avid seekers for great deals on neat clothing. That’s a practice that we could all learn to adopt, regardless of our wealth or social status!
