Mehndi or Henna is a dye made from Lawsonia inermis, also called the Henna Plant. On joyous occasions, applying henna as a form of body art has been the tradition of Middle Eastern women for centuries. This tradition is especially popular on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, a festival celebrated by Muslims all over the globe. On Chand Raat, (‘The Night of the Moon Sighting’) women adorn their hands and oftentimes feet with the henna ink. Mehndi refers to the designs made with this ink.
